At El Cielo Valle de Guadalupe , we have been concerned about growing, but it is important to consider sustainability, always prioritizing the optimization of natural resources . Commitment to the environment must be a priority and the actions undertaken impact our planet and future generations.

The water

Water is an essential resource in agricultural processes, and the use of new technologies allows it to be used efficiently for good hydration.

One strategy we implement is the use of reservoirs where water is collected and from which the vineyards are irrigated. During the winter , when the vine is dormant , we take advantage of the rainy season and accumulate water for irrigation the following spring and summer.

A well-hydrated vine produces better wines. In addition, El Cielo has wastewater treatment plants for garden irrigation.

Electric energy

Electricity is expensive and its traditional generation is polluting, which is why we have also been concerned about investing in renewable energy through the use of solar panels because we are not only interested in saving energy, but also in producing it.

Both the hotel and the winery operate with LED lighting, which means considerable economic savings in addition to reducing the pollution that can be generated .

Best wines from organic vineyards

Biodynamics and the development of organic vineyards based on sustainable practices with the land are of vital importance today and are also a global trend to preserve the soil in better conditions and thus also impact the quality of the wine . 

We are working to have some organic vineyards ; by 2022, it is expected that all vineyards will be organic.

Harris's hawks

Falconry is an activity that is increasingly adopted by wineries and is related to the activities around organic vineyards . It consists of the control of harmful fauna through Harris's hawks , also known as falcons, mixed sparrowhawks or red-and-black hawks.

The technology is used, for example, in airports, since a bird hitting the turbine of an airplane can be very dangerous. The eagles control both the presence of birds and some small rodents in the vineyards and it is an eco-friendly practice .

The eagles are trained to be able to go out every morning to hunt the fauna that can affect the vineyard . Their nature is precisely to be hunters, however, their training is not so complicated because they are known as sociable birds of prey , that is , they can easily live with other birds of their species and adapt to contact with human beings.
